A number of options were investigated for the redevelopment of this existing house in the Coleby conservation area, from minimal intervention to upgrading the fabric and layout, through to demolition and re-build using either traditional or off-site manufactured systems. The chosen solution was demolition and re-build on the existing foundations which allowed for a more flexible and energy efficient design. Highly insulated rendered block walls give high thermal mass and efficiency; a whole-house heat recovery and air source heat pump system combined with a sealed building minimise energy input.
