An energy study to help this 20th Century grade 2 listed church look at ways to reduce its energy use as the church’s response to the Church of England’s Shrinking the Footprint initiative. The existing energy use was profiled for the church and the adjacent church hall, looking at the buildings’ fabric, ventilating, heating and lighting systems and water use. Options were investigated for improvements to the insulation standards for walls, floors, roofs and windows as well as options for renewable energy heating systems including biomass boilers and ground source heat pumps. Each of these was profiled for carbon reduction value and capital/lifecycle costs.
